Money Making with Blogging

24.com (South Africa) conducted a blog survey (1000 bloggers were surveyed), it was largest blog survey and its statistics were finally manipulated on 10th of December 2008 and few amazing facts and figures came out (Author of SA Blog Report - Mandy de Waal). Most bloggers are of age group between 25 and 44 and blog was just for fun not for commercial value to earn money, very few bloggers make money and that too very low amount.

Blog research results showed only eight percent of surveyed bloggers have a commercial motive, and out of this number around 85% earn between R1 and R1,000 while 15% (or 12 surveyed bloggers) earn between R1,000 and R3,000 each month. Some 43% of respondents earn more than R20,000 monthly, while more than 15% earn over R50,000 per month. Interestingly, 58% of local bloggers are married or cohabit, and 46% of them have children. There is an even split of men and women blogging and 58% are between the ages of 25 and 44.Some 95% of respondents said English or Afrikaans was their first language. Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria are blogging epicentres and account for more than 75% of surveyed bloggers.

Survey result also says that blogging has lot to do with bloggers online and offline lives. South Africa capital Cape Town appeared to be blogging capital as most responses were from there.

On an average 1 to 5 blog posts per week was calculated to be done, blogging platform is considered and taken as an outlet to express personal, pen down individual ideas thoughtfully. Graph showed 50% bloggers posted just 1 post per week, only 15% posted 4-5 postings weekly. Another interesting fact was that 65% spent 1-10 hours average weekly on their blog.

I would like to conclude by saying blogging provides open platform for individual to contribute and share information, experiences. Internet Blogging is self empowered. We need to become more aware and utilize blogs as revenue generating model that involves larger audience, diverse participants from all over the world and easy integration and mobilizing people to think and act.
